WWG Mayhem Billboard

This week's World Works Games review is a space filler in two senses. First up, I don't have much time to devote to my blog this week as I am playing and photographing not one but two ATZ battle reports. They are time-consuming affairs. Secondly, the billboard is a space filler for a gaming board. It is not as useful as a building, for example, but built the way that I've done it, it adds a splash of colour to an otherwise drab grey cityscape... more so than the Mayhem small park that I reviewed recently.

Here is an overhead shot of the billboard, which comes from the Streets of Mayhem set. The ground tile comes from the Bits of Mayhem set and the trees are from the Citadel Trees and Hedges scenery set for Warhammer.

Streets of Mayhem comes with three different advertising boards to choose from. A further eight can be found in the Bits of Mayhem set and, of course, there is nothing stopping you from designing your own. A blank template is provided if you want to take that option.

I chose the Scary Pete's Jam poster because it is so odd and also because I like the fact that the image bursts out of its rectangular perimeter with Pete's head and jar.

If you want to stick with just WWG products you could replace the trees with those found in the Hinterlands set. That set had not been produced when I made this model, but even if it had, I would still have used "proper" 3-D trees. To be honest, I am not a big fan of papercraft foliage. It just looks too flat for me.

I painted the trunks of my trees with Citadel Khemri Brown from their Foundation Paints set then gave it a wash of Citadel Devlan Mud. It was one of the easiest paintjobs that I've ever done but I hope you agree that the result looks good. I added a billboard advertising the Mayhem Armoury to the roof of my Mayhem Armoury but this is the way I would expect to see a billboard - on the ground. As I said at the start, it's a good space filler.

  1. Thanks for the compliment, Slobberblood and thanks for leaving a comment. I was not expecting any comments about this review as it is a rather short article about a very mundane subject. A billboard hardly grabs the attention like some of my other models.

  2. A cracking little scenic, reminds me of Tremors for some reason.

Personally I'm in two minds about the WWG range, sure they're very nice but just not sure they're for me I'm after more mundane British looking buildings, but I like a bit of scratch building anyway.

  3. Hehe gotta love the billboard. Matter of fact the first one I built is the Scary Pete's one, though I did add the Mayhem Armory to the other side when I realized I put the Scary Pete's sign on the backside of the billboard frame.

I also added a little grafitti to mine in the lower left corner "It's People" as a little nod the movie Soylent Green and due to the fact that Scary Pete kinda looks liek he is into canibalism.

  4. @Phil. Check my comments on the Vampiifan's Views 02 section for my thoughts on what you said about WWG and scratch-building. Tremors is a great movie. It's definitely one of my favourites.

@Eldorf. I love your comment about "it's people" and I do agree that Scary Pete looks like he's into cannibalism. D'oh! Sticking the poster to the wrong side of the board must have been a real frustrating moment for you, but a neat recovery. I suppose there is no reason why you couldn't have a poster on both sides of the board if it's in the right location.

I'm glad you guys liked the billboard I've made. I did not expect it to garner this amount of interest.

  5. Once again Vampifam shows a fabulous set-piece for making a board look 'lived-in'. Been away for a while (laptop issues - don't ask - best not to) but loving what you do as ever.

Always on the look out for potential bill-board alternatives to scatter around my city on the roof-tops. Must invest in some of those trees. Was going to go the sea-foam route and try for a bit more 'realism' but they need to be durable too.

    Keep it up V!

  6. Welcome back, Munce. I was wondering why you'd been so quiet lately both here and on the WWG forum. Sorry to hear about your laptop. Don't worry, I won't ask!
Make sure you check in mid-week when I'll be reviewing Urban Grind - the Mayhem Skateboard Park by WWG. It's quite a set-up!
