Vampifan's Views 52 - My 500th Post

Vampirella with unfeasibly large boobs by Julius Zimmerman
Hey, it's my 500th post! Let's party! Let's celebrate! Let's have a competition to win some cool prizes!
For a long time now I have wanted to run a prize draw competition on my blog, but I needed a good enough excuse to run it. When my blog celebrated its 5th anniversary earlier this year, I could and possibly should have ran it then. But I didn't. I did however notice that my 500th post was approaching so I decided to wait for it in order to celebrate.
First I'll explain the rules of the competition, then I'll tell you about the prizes. Yes, that is prizes, plural. Inspired by a question and answer session ran by Johnny/Lord Siwoc and copied by a few other bloggers, I wanted to run my version of it, but with a few tweaks to the format.
So, you can ask me any three questions you want, based on any subject and I'll give you my honest answers. If you want to ask less than three questions that's fine by me. Just send your questions in the comments section of this post. I'll run the competition for a week and announce the winners along with all of my answers next Wednesday (16th of July 2014). So now let's move on to the three prizes I'm offering.
The first prize will be a boxed set of 20 plastic 28mm scale zombie dogs from Zombicide season 2. If you don't play Zombicide, you can still use these figures in any post-apocalypse or zombie apocalypse game. There are four types of dog and five of each type.
Sticking with the theme of dogs, the second prize will be a boxed set of 6 plastic 28mm scale dog companions from Zombicide season 2. This set contains two of each of three breeds of dog. Because these are "normal" dogs you can use them in pretty much any game or genre.
The third prize is a set of 6 Armorcast 28mm scale Road Kill Animals. Unlike the previous two prizes, this prize comes fully painted by me. From left to right are an armadillo, a coyote, a jack rabbit, a raccoon, a rattlesnake and a skunk.
If you are wondering why I am offering these as prizes it is simply because they are all duplicates. I only need one set of each, so I thought I'd offer my duplicate sets as prizes. If there are any prizes you specifically want or don't want please mention it when you send in your questions. It is entirely possible that one person could win all three prizes! If you don't mention the prizes I'll just assume you don't mind which one(s) you might win.
Be creative and be entertaining with your questions. Let's have a bit of fun and may the best man (or woman) win. In the meantime, a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone for helping me reach this historic milestone. Here's to the next 500 posts and hopefully, many more!

  1. You never mentioned what needs to be done to win (except that we should post the questions)

Feel free to delete this comment while I think of suitable questions! :D
    And congrats on 500 posts!

    1. Mathyoo, all you need do to win is send me one, two or three questions. It's that simple.

Thanks for the congrats. now go and think up some suitable questions. Oh, and by the way, don't copy other people's questions. Keep them original.

    2. I know, I know, it just doesn't clearly state what wins it - the best question overall? :D

I did gave it a thought after reading both Christopher and Paul's questions (his question "What would be the ideal hobby gift for the person that has everything?" is a winner, btw :D).

      1) You seem to have everything anyone would need for a perfect zombie outbreak campaign. What kind of miniatures you think you'd still need to make your collection even better?

      2) This was probably answered in the past - but why did you decide to set your games in an American and not British environment? Was this just a random choice or did you actually put some thought into it?

      3) Your sculpts are great, why did you stop making miniatures? And don't tell me you didn't need to make anymore - you can never have enough zombies!

    3. Many thanks, Mathyoo. My initial thought was simply that the best (read most entertaining/thought provoking) questions would win. But the quality of the questions so far (including yours, by the way) have been so good I may just print them all out and put them in a cup and get my mum to pick out three winners. Yes, it is random but you guys are not making it easy for me to choose three obvious winners.

  2. Congratulations on your 500th post, Bryan! You've inspired so many of us, not just withyour hobby content, but to start our own blogs as well. There definitely wouldn't be a "Dispatches from the Rim" if I'd never seen "Vampifan's World of the Undead." (I also found it cool that when I came to your page for this post, my blog was the one at the top your blogroll!)

    Here are my three questions.

    1) Other than crossovers/mash-ups that have already appeared in comics, who would be the ultimate/best crossover for Vampirella?

    2) What would be your personal everyday carry gear n the event of a zombi apocalypse?

    and

    3) Do you think you'll ever do any more of your incredible paper terrain build write-up/tutorials? I know they're what first drew me here, although I stayed for the wonderful ATZ AARs, book reviews, figure reviews and, of course, the friendship we've formed. Here's to the next 500 posts!

    1. Many thanks, Christopher. I really appreciate our friendship. You have got the contest off to a terrific start with three most excellent questions. I'll answer them all next Wednesday, okay?

  3. What is your name?

    What is your quest?

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

    Only joking.

What does the future hold for miniature wargaming?

What would be the ideal hobby gift for the person that has everything?

What is the secret to a good horror genre game?

Congratulations on the important milestone, here's to the next 500!

    1. Thanks, Paul. I will answer your first three questions here.
My full name is Bryan Scott.
My quest is two-fold. Collect at least 1,000 unique zombie miniatures in 28mm scale and build as much of Mayhem City as I can.
A swallow's air speed is roughly 100mph, which is nothing when compared to the air speed of the world's fastest bird, the peregrine falcon. It has an air speed of 242 mph (true fact!).

      Delete
    2. Lol, how do you know so much about swallows? Excellent and worthy quest, that's a game I'd love to play.

      Delete
    3. First of all, I do know quite a bit about birds as I used to work as a graphic designer at Washington Wildfowl Park. Secondly, I cheated and looked up the answer on Wikipedia!

Ok I have thought about it! Choice of wining items would be 2, 1,3
      Questions...

1] If a fat person and skinny person both get sunburnt to the exact same amount, which will feel the greatest pain?

2] If you wear a yellow tee shirt all day how come your belly button fluff is still bluey-grey?

3] How can something be "new" and "improved"? if it's new, what was it improving on?

Hope that puts a smile on your face. All the best mate. Was it worth the wait?

    3. Thanks, Clint, and yes, your questions did bring a smile to my face.

  5. Congratulations on hitting such a tremendous milestone!

1, If you could have any character from any book or film etc made in miniature who would it be and why?

2, If you could do any job in the world what would it be and why?

3, What do you think would be the best Country or Place to ride out the Apocalypse and why?

  6. Congratulations on the Milestone Bryan! It's been thoroughly entertaining all the way, here's to your next 500 posts!

    1) If you were a character in a zombie/vampire film or novel... How would you like to be introduced into the story or what would your introductory line be?

    2) Which three characters would be in your Zombie Survival team?

    3) If you hadn't had such an enthusiastic zeal for zombie gaming, what else do you think you might have ended up doing?

    1. Thanks, Adam. I'm already looking forward to the next 500... and next, etc.

For your second question I assume you mean three fictional characters?

      Delete
    2. Yes Bryan, but they don't have to be fictional if you can think of anyone in the real world you'd rather have on your team!

      Delete
    3. I'll give you two lots of answers to this question, Adam, one for fictional characters and one for real life people.

  7. Congratulations on the 500th post Bryan!! That´s alot of writing :-o

    1) Why have you never brought out your own range of miniatures?

    2) How much hobby time do you dedicate each week? (not including reading and watching films)

    3) Has your hobby life always been with zombies, or did you start out in another "genre"?

Oddly enough, your last two questions will be easy to answer.
Even so, three more excellent questions.

  9. 1000th.

So I guess I can come up with at least three questions for you:

    1) How did the Vampirella appeal begin for you? Any particular story you remember as being the "this is really REALLY cool moment for you?"

    2) What will you be posting about 5 years from now? Could you give a mental preview of that blog entry?

    3) How many zombie miniatures are currently in your horde. Painted/un-painted? (This feels like a potential "how many jelly beans" are in the jar type game).

    1. Thanks for those questions, Carl. Number one is a beaut!

  10. Congratulations on the big 'ol 500th post. Long may it continue.
    Questions.

    2. Is Zombicide adding or detracting to ATZ for you?

    3. How seriously have you thought about prepping?

  11. Congrats on 500! Hopefully the view is nice from up there... Can't wait for the next 500! Great idea for the questions and answers, I think it's a fun way to get a discussion going!

In no particular order here are my questions:

    1) What was the moment you became a 'gamer'?

    2) What is your must have 'luxury' item for the zombie apocalypse?

    3) If you could visit, explore and view any historical event, what would it be?

    1. Thanks, Nobody667. I'm sure mmy answers will spark some debate, and that can only be a good thing. Your first and third questions are very easy to answer but your second one has certainly got me thinking. I'm going to need a bit of time to come up with an answer for that one.

  12. Hi Bryan congratulations! Yours is the first blog I ever followed though it was years till I officially became a follower. I think I first started checking it out in 2009. Now the questions:

Since Vampirella is your favorite character how did you end up with a zombie blog rather than a vampire one?

If you where an angst ridden teen girl when the Twilight movies came out would you have gone for the sparkly vampire or the shirtless werewolf?

Not counting zombies what is your most favorite movie monster?

    And a fourth bonus question

Why haven’t you read any of the original Vampirella comics? They are worlds better than the ones you have been reading.

    1. Wow, Robert, if you've been following mmy blog since 2009 that makes you one of my oldest followers. Thanks ever so much!

I'm going to half answer your fourth question with a question of my own - who says I haven't been reading the original Vampirella comics published by Warren? I'll answer fully next week, okay?

    2. I believe you did but that may have been years ago.

  13. Congrats on 500 post Bryan, here's to many more in the future.
    So...question time...

1, How would you react to encountering Vampirella in real life?
    2. If you could alter/ change/ erase from existance/ any zombie film, which would it be and why?
    3. Which fictional character or real person would you absolutely hate to be stuck with during the zombie apocalypse?

  14. Hi Brian, Again congrats on 500 posts hope there are many more in the future, and some more on cardstock modelling wouldn't go amiss.

    2. What is your favourite tv show?

  16. Just read your 500th post blog and it got me thinking.

    1. How will 3D Printing affect the world of miniature figure gaming?
    2. Why would I want to win one of your prizes?
    3. How many orange creams do you have to eat, in a packet of Cadbury’s Misshapes, before you encounter a solid chocolate?

    I like Q1 because I like 3D Printers.
    I like Q2 because I like recursion.
    I like Q3 because I like Cadbury’s chocolate.

  17. Congratulations on this milestone Bryan! Really amazing. You are, as I have mentioned before, a main reason why I blog this day.

    1. So WHY did you start to blog? Your motivation behind it.

1000 unique zombie miniatures in 28 mm. You must be over the halfway point now..

    2. Which zombie model (28mm) is your favorite in your collection and why?

    3. Any famous person that you could think of (alive or dead) To sit down with and have a game with. Who would that be and why?

I do hope to see the 1000th post from you as well mate!

    1. it's great to hear from you Johnny, especially as it was your idea that inspired this competition. I don't know if you've noticed but on the left hand sidebar is a heading that reads My 28mm Scale Zombie Horde. You'll find it below Search This Blog and above Blogs I Like to Read. That tells you that I currently have 883 painted metal and plastic zombies and 141 unpainted metal zombies. God knows how many unpainted plastic zombies i have. I'm too afraid to count them all!

    2. Well would you look at that.... So you have. There is me for a fool not looking properly. Actually a very cool idea.

And I like the fact that I get to inspire you mate ;-)

Even if I do not get pulled out of the hat, I would really like the answers to my questions.

Have a nice day and take care

    3. I suspect that a lot of people have never noticed that little notice in the sidebar, Johnny. It gets updated every time i finish painting any zombies or if I buy any new metal zombies.

Have no fear, i will answer your questions next week, along with everyone else's.

Congrats from Mexico for your 500th post!

    Now the questions...

1, Having played a good deal of different zombie games, can you tell us your favorite game mechanic that really captures the zombie mood on a tabletop?

    2. What is your personal favorite reason or "explanation" (invented, or from a movie, novel or TV show) as to how the zombie outbreak started?

3, Do you think a zombie apokalipse is at all possible in "real life"?
